This Winterlude weekend, explore the fascinating evolution of money in Canada—from beaver pelts to polymer notes—and design your own bank note.
Come to the Bank of Canada Museum to discover how money has changed over time through real objects and hands-on exploration. Learn about the materials, imagery, and ideas behind Canadian money, past and present.
After tracing the story of money in Canada, get creative at our craft station and design your own bank note. Show us the symbols, designs, and features you’d want to see on your own “currency.”

We at the Bank of Canada Museum are dedicated to changing that by bringing the economy front and centre for Canadians. Located in the heart of Canada’s central bank, the Museum’s mission is to help visitors see, touch and walk through the economy, experiencing it as never before. Enter the heart of the economic system through fun, hands-on, interactive exhibits that cover everything from how your expectations affect the economy to how inflation targeting works (spoiler: you get to fly a rocket ship). Visitors can also learn the history of money through our artifacts. Our traditional exhibits feature centuries of cultural economic artifacts together with a comprehensive exploration of Canadian and international currency history.

No Place at Corridor 45|75
No Place is an exhibition by Ottawa-Gatineau artist Shannon Whittle featuring a series of reproduced and reconfigured paintings of imagined landscapes. Drawing on historical landscape painting, media imagery, and personal experience, Whittle explores the delicate interconnections of ecosystems threatened by the climate crisis and human activity.
