Set in John Barrymore’s untouched 1930s-era apartment in New York City, I Hate Hamlet follows television star Andrew Rally as he wrestles with the challenge of playing the role of Hamlet on stage.

Already facing pressure from the weight of Shakespeare’s iconic character, Andrew also finds himself clashing with a girlfriend committed to chastity — and unexpectedly hosting the ghost of John Barrymore, summoned during a séance led by a well-meaning but unqualified friend.

This clever and comedic play explores the timeless tug-of-war between ambition, legacy and love.
