From March 4 to March 12\, Canadian rock band Wintersleep will support the tour\, with Ash Molloy making a special appearance at the Halifax show on March 13. Bradford was discovered and hired by William “Count” Basie at the age of 22 and was a featured vocalist in his orchestra for nine years. Salina’s piece draws a musical parallel\, celebrating the restorative power of music and art. \nVenezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero’s skills and talent border on the mystical—she can play the classics or improvise on any musical theme her audience suggests. The NAC Orchestra is always delighted to welcome her back to Southam Hall! Tonight\, Gabriela plays Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. This concerto is a musical supernova that is bright and beautiful\, as well as a serious workout for any pianist who takes it on. \nIn most symphonies\, the violins take centre stage throughout\, but in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4\, every section gets a chance to shine. DESCRIPTION:Rhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue is Giddens’ much-anticipated return to her North Carolina roots and the old-time music tradition that launched her career. 2x GRAMMY\, MacArthur “Genius”\, and Pulitzer Prize winner Giddens has pulled together a remarkable band that represents an incredible array of talent and American musical traditions to celebrate her new album What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow\, a fiddle-and-banjo record made in collaboration with Justin Robinson. Joining them on stage will be celebrated multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell\, bassist Jason Sypher\, guitarist Amelia Powell\, and bones player and rapper Demeanor. \nWhat Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow features a mix of North Carolinian instrumentals and traditional songs. Thompson was one of the last musicians of his era and his community to carry on the southern Black string band tradition. Rhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue pay homage to that legacy and shepard it into a new era. \nGiddens’ new album\, What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow is out April 2025. \nRhiannon Giddens has pledged to donate $1 per ticket to a charitable cause of her choice.
