SUMMARY:Revival: Printmaking in Nunavik (2014–2019)
DESCRIPTION:Revival echoes the beginnings of stonecut printing in Puvirnituq in 1961\, and bears witness to the recent resurgence of this art. Lyne Bastien and Maggie Napartuk have made this possible through traveling workshops offered in communities across Nunavik since 2014. Puvirnituq prints were simple\, unadorned depictions of animals and scenes belonging to traditional Inuit imagery. Now\, sixty years later\, Inuit artists continue to demonstrate a profound desire to keep their culture alive through this art form. Revival gives us a glimpse into the many wonders and challenges of their world. This touring exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Avataq Cultural Institute\, supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec as well as the Makivik Corporation.

SUMMARY:Sébastien Gaudette – Ephemeral Language
DESCRIPTION:Sébastien Gaudette’s artistic practice centres on paper — a medium he explores through sculpture\, installation and drawing. His approach creates a graphic dialogue where the gesture leaves only the imprint of movement\, evolving gradually into increasingly complex forms. In doing so\, he challenges the materiality of paper and transforms our perception of it. Crumpled\, folded or torn\, the paper reflects the creative process and becomes the narrative thread that guides his work. \nThe exhibition unfolds like a striking mise-en-scène\, where monumental paper constructions intertwine with metal sculptures and drawings. These temporary installations are assembled directly on-site\, allowing them to integrate with the space they inhabit. The opening takes place April 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.\, in a joint opening with the 44.4 Mother/Artist Collective at City Hall Art Gallery.

DESCRIPTION:Join fellow sports fans and catch professional baseball games from May to September in Canada’s capital at Ottawa Stadium\, just east of downtown.  \nThe Ottawa Titans Baseball Club plays in the Eastern Conference of the Frontier League\, which includes 15 teams from Ontario\, Québec\, and the U.S. northeast. The team’s mascot\, Cappy\, is a family favourite. During non-game days and the off-season\, the 10\,000-seat RCGT Park stadium is also used to host concerts\, festivals and other events.  \nThe venue is conveniently located along Ottawa’s main highway\, and parking is available. The stadium is also easily accessible by public transportation via the light rail O-Train Confederation Line\, which stops at the VIA Rail station just a short walk from the stadium.

SUMMARY:Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Canada’s most popular multi-day running event sees close to 50\,000 participants compete in a variety of challenging races—including the country’s largest marathon—along picturesque downtown routes. \nIn May\, keen runners—including Olympic athletes and champions from around the world—converge on Canada’s capital to compete in one or more of six amazing events: the marathon\, half marathon\, 10K\, 5K\, 2K and kids’ marathon. \nTens of thousands of spectators line routes along the Rideau Canal\, the Ottawa River and other scenic locations to cheer on the competitors. Before and after the race\, runners and spectators enjoy live entertainment\, a beer garden\, and a health and fitness expo\, all near the starting area at Ottawa City Hall. \nTamarack Ottawa Race Weekend is one of the only running events in the world to host two World Athletics Gold Label events: the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon and the Ottawa 10K.

Together\, let us be inspired and reach for the stars! \nThe Laidlaw Family\nWe are Richard and Anna Laidlaw\, and we live in Ottawa\, Ontario\, Canada with our family. We have 3 beautiful sons who bring so much joy to our lives: Jack who is 7 and in grade 2\, Scott who is 5 and in senior kindergarten\, and Tom who is 3 and in preschool.\nOur eldest son Jack is a bright\, happy\, friendly and empathetic boy. He has many hobbies ranging from hockey and other sports to playing piano! He dreams of being an astronaut and wants to be the first person to walk on Mars!\nUnfortunately In December of 2023\, Jack was diagnosed with SPG4. As his parents\, we were left feeling devastated and helpless. \nWhat is SPG4\nSPG4 is a rare genetic disease and neurological disorder. It is characterized by degeneration of neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The main symptom of SPG4 is muscle weakness and spasticity (stiffness) in the legs. Once symptoms begin\, neuron degeneration continues leading to progressive muscle weakness and spasticity. \nWe need your support\nBecause a small population is affected by SPG4 (1 in 50\,000 people)\, research for the SPG4 Cure Project does not have funding. It has fallen on families affected by SPG4 to raise money and fund this project so that the cure can reach human clinical trials. We are hosting “Jack’s Gala: Reaching for the Stars” to help raise money to fund research for the SPG4 Cure Project.
