SUMMARY:Revival: Printmaking in Nunavik (2014–2019)
DESCRIPTION:Revival echoes the beginnings of stonecut printing in Puvirnituq in 1961\, and bears witness to the recent resurgence of this art. Lyne Bastien and Maggie Napartuk have made this possible through traveling workshops offered in communities across Nunavik since 2014. Puvirnituq prints were simple\, unadorned depictions of animals and scenes belonging to traditional Inuit imagery. Now\, sixty years later\, Inuit artists continue to demonstrate a profound desire to keep their culture alive through this art form. Revival gives us a glimpse into the many wonders and challenges of their world. This touring exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Avataq Cultural Institute\, supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec as well as the Makivik Corporation.

SUMMARY:Sébastien Gaudette – Ephemeral Language
DESCRIPTION:Sébastien Gaudette’s artistic practice centres on paper — a medium he explores through sculpture\, installation and drawing. His approach creates a graphic dialogue where the gesture leaves only the imprint of movement\, evolving gradually into increasingly complex forms. In doing so\, he challenges the materiality of paper and transforms our perception of it. Crumpled\, folded or torn\, the paper reflects the creative process and becomes the narrative thread that guides his work. \nThe exhibition unfolds like a striking mise-en-scène\, where monumental paper constructions intertwine with metal sculptures and drawings. These temporary installations are assembled directly on-site\, allowing them to integrate with the space they inhabit. The opening takes place April 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.\, in a joint opening with the 44.4 Mother/Artist Collective at City Hall Art Gallery.

This popular annual event features massive tulip displays\, family fun and more.  \nOver 11 days each May\, the Canadian Tulip Festival celebrates the seasonal flower’s beauty and its historic ties to Canada’s capital. The outdoor event takes place at Commissioners Park\, where over 300\,000 tulips bloom alongside the Rideau Canal’s picturesque Dows Lake. Access to the site and select programming is free!  \nTulips (day and night)\, kids fun and souvenirs\nTake photos and selfies amongst the dozens of multicoloured garden beds; visit the heritage display to learn about the historic gift of tulips which led to the festival’s creation; shop for fresh cut flowers\, crafts\, art and more at the tulip boutique; take the kids to the Tulip Town activity area; and enjoy lit garden beds and a blacklight boardwalk experience after dark.  \nTours\, workshops and movie\nEnjoy a Self-Guided Legacy Tour that conveniently uses QR codes. Additional free programming includes daily outdoor movies at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.\, as well as a new sound and light show every evening on the blacklight boardwalk at 9:15 p.m.    \nRoyal roots \nThe festival began with a special gift. The Royal Family of the Kingdom of the Netherlands took refuge in Ottawa during the Second World War\, and Her Royal Highness\, Princess Margriet was born here in 1943. Two years later\, Canadian troops played a key role in liberating the Netherlands. In gratitude\, the Dutch government has sent Canada a gift of tulip bulbs every year since 1945\, inspiring what has become the Canadian Tulip Festival.

DESCRIPTION:Join fellow sports fans and catch professional baseball games from May to September in Canada’s capital at Ottawa Stadium\, just east of downtown.  \nThe Ottawa Titans Baseball Club plays in the Eastern Conference of the Frontier League\, which includes 15 teams from Ontario\, Québec\, and the U.S. northeast. The team’s mascot\, Cappy\, is a family favourite. During non-game days and the off-season\, the 10\,000-seat RCGT Park stadium is also used to host concerts\, festivals and other events.  \nThe venue is conveniently located along Ottawa’s main highway\, and parking is available. The stadium is also easily accessible by public transportation via the light rail O-Train Confederation Line\, which stops at the VIA Rail station just a short walk from the stadium.

DESCRIPTION:A powwow is a gathering to celebrate First Nations culture through dance\, songs\, food and crafts\, and is open to all. The Pow Wow Workout is 45-minute high-intensity exercise program that will incorporate powwow dance steps from different styles of powwow dance and the sounds of contemporary and traditional powwow music into a simple\, follow-along workout.
