DESCRIPTION:This musical journey is dedicated to the golden age of jazz and Big Band.\nCarmen Bradford is a GRAMMY Award-nominated jazz artist\, following in the footsteps of the Bradford family legacy.\nDistinguished tap dancer Leo Manzari has appeared with multiple Pops orchestras across the world and on shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and The View.\n\nAs temperatures rise\, triple-threat Byron Stripling returns to Southam Hall to lead the NAC Orchestra in Harlem Nights: From Ella to Ellington\, a swingin’ evening inspired by Harlem’s heyday at famed musical hot spots like the legendary Cotton Club and The Savoy. \nMaestro Stripling\, who is a trumpeter and vocalist himself\, will be joined onstage by the incredible Carmen Bradford\, a third-generation jazz vocalist and 2022 GRAMMY Award-nominee. Bradford was discovered and hired by William “Count” Basie at the age of 22 and was a featured vocalist in his orchestra for nine years. Her dynamic tones take audiences back in time as she pays tribute to jazz queens like Ella Fitzgerald and more. \nJazz and dance go hand in hand\, and the NAC is delighted to have one half of the Manzari Brothers tap duo\, Leo Manzari\, join this performance. His mesmerizing footwork and graceful movement add a distinctive finishing touch to this spirited program. Originally from the Kayes region of western Mali\, Djely Tapa shares the wise words and vocal art of the griots\, iconic figures of ancient and contemporary Malian society whose origins date back to the Mandingo Empire of the 13th century. Her repertoire blends Mandingo traditions\, desert blues\, and electronic sounds. In 2019\, she made her solo debut with her album Barokan (2020 Juno Award\, World Music Album of the Year) and was named Révélation Radio-Canada.

Participating this year are Books on Beechwood (35 Beechwood Avenue)\, Mill Street Books (52 Mill Street\, Almonte)\, Octopus Books (116 Third Avenue)\, Perfect Books (258 Elgin Street)\, Singing Pebble Books (206 Main Street)\, The Spaniel’s Tale Bookstore (1131 Wellington Street West)\, Westboro Books (314 Richmond Road) and World of Maps (1191 Wellington Street West). Pick up a passport and collect stamps at any 7 of the 8 participating bookstores to enter a draw for a $200 prize to spend at local bookstores. Everyone is welcome and no purchase is necessary. DESCRIPTION:Take in the electric atmosphere of an NHL game in Canada’s capital and watch pro hockey players compete in the national winter sport.   The Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL) play against rivals like the Montréal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs\, among other Canadian and American teams. The Sens\, as they are colloquially known\, are supported by their Sens Army fans and by their friendly hairy mascot\, Spartacat\, who roams the stands giving high fives.   The Senators play at the Canadian Tire Centre in the west-end suburb of Kanata\, which you can reach easily by car or on game-day express buses. Inside the arena\, you can fuel up for the game with food and drinks from a wide range of vendors\, or dine at one of several on-site restaurants and bars.
